Alpaca fleeces were first used by the ancient Incas since it makes for perfect bedding linen: warm in the winter and cool in the summer, as well as being luxuriously silky to touch. The Incas referred to Alpaca fleece as “the fibre of the gods”.  Unlike sheep’s wool, each strand is hollow, making it one of the lightest natural fibres available.  It is this hollowness that accounts for its insulating properties.  Alpaca fibres are also porous, and will absorb between 30% and 35% of their moisture, keeping you dry while asleep.  Since Alpaca fibre is clean, dry and porous, it is repellent to Dust mites.
